Media Converters

A media converter is a small, purpose-built device that bridges two different network transmission media — for example copper Ethernet on one side and fibre optic cable on the other. Media converters extend copper Ethernet links beyond the roughly 100 m limit of twisted-pair cabling by converting the signal to fibre and back again. Applications can include linking distant points on a campus, connecting equipment inside industrial cabinets to a control room, and inserting a fibre segment into an existing copper network without a forklift upgrade.
